Expanded Form & Function

‘Perpetual presence’ is a partial circular ceramic piece inspired by monolith and mountains, expressing the forces of accumulative natural activity and an energy of  retaining its form over time. Mountains lying subtly, sleeping away in the history. The evidence of immense energy capsuled in stillness.

For this project I wished to create an object that works as a reminder of sense of time that lies beneath the conception of time in our daily life.

The piece is made in a press mould which captured a circular movement with a profile inspired by patterns on the rock I found. It is a partial circular piece laying on its side. Semi dried black clay was suitable for this piece in order to create cracks and give a rough surface on the piece. On the sliced sides, the mixed clay has been used to display the myths, wonder and unknownness inside a massive object such as monolith.
